Ricky Smith is a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) certified by the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP). He also hold a Certification Reliability Leader (CRL) by the Association of Asset Management Professionals (AMP).
Many people and organizations succeed using Ricky Smith's simple approach to any process that creates long-term value. Ricky transitions organizations from their current state to more proactive state, resulting in culture change, optimal asset reliability and lower cost.
Ricky Smith has over 30 years of experience in manufacturing, facilities, mining, foods, military and many other types of organizations as both a practitioner and change agent in maintenance reliability worldwide. He worked in two corporate roles, one as a global reliability engineering leader and the other as a corporate maintenance engineering leader. At the site level, he began his career as a maintenance technician at Exxon Company USA, Alumax Mt. Holly (This plant was rate the best in the world for 18 years) and Hercules Chemical, providing the foundation for his maintenance reliability experience.
In 2004, Ricky was mobilized by the U.S Army Reserve to deploy to South West Asia as a Maintenance Company Commander in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served in this capacity from 2004-2005. In 2007, Ricky was mobilized as a investigating military officer at the Pentagon and charged by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates to identify facility issue and make recommended changes to enhance facility reliability at Walter reed National Military Medical Center. His report on the facility's condition and problems were reported to the U.S. Congress in 2007. He also wrote and article for Uptime Magazine on this issue.
Ricky Smith is the co-author of "Rule of Thumb for Maintenance and Reliability Engineer, " "Lean Maintenance: Reduce Costs, Improve Quality, and Increase Market Share," " Industrial Machinery Repair: Best Maintenance Practices" "Planning and Scheduling Made Simple," "Failure Report Made Simple," Root Cause Analysis Made Simple (RCA),"Preventive Maintenance Made Simple," "FRACAS Failure, Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System," "Maintenance and Reliability Lubrication 101 Keep it Simple," "Maintenance Reliability Metrics/ KPIs Keeping It Simple."
Ricky has written for different magazine during the past 35 years on the technical, reliability and maintenance subjects.
Ricky is past Chairman of The Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals, SIG, which has seven regional directors globally. He is past Chairman of the SMRP's Mining Special Interest Group.

Since 1980 he has been president of Springfields Resources, a maintenance and consulting firm that has developed solutions for a wide range of maintenance issues. Joel is a frequent speaker at maintenance and engineering conferences, has written books Preventive Predictive Maintenance, Basics of Feet Maintenance, TPM Reloaded, Maintenance Planning Coordination Scheduling (co-author), Maintenance Management, Lead Maintenance, Managing Factory Maintenance, Managing Maintenances Shutdowns and Outage
